Focus your impact framework with your vision, mission, values, and themes

To help your organization stay focused on the purpose behind your work, we recommend documenting your mission, vision, values and themes.

Vision, mission, values and themes may already be documented in your account if your organization administrator has gone through the onboarding process and documented those elements.

Editing your mission, vision, values and themes

You can always edit your mission, vision, values and themes from this section within the Define section.

How to use vision, mission, values and themes

Vision

Capture your organization’s vision statement - your guiding north star - in one inspiring sentence.

Your vision statement communicates the core purpose of your organization and the change you want to make in your community or the world. It should be long-term, unvarying, and powerful.

Example

UpMetrics: A data-driven ecosystem that drives capital and resources to impact.

Mission

Showcase how you will deliver on your vision and hold yourself and others accountable in a tangible way.

A mission statement supports your vision and serves to communicate purpose and direction. A mission statement should showcase how you plan to tackle and accomplish your current goals and can evolve over time.

Example

UpMetrics: We empower organizations with the knowledge and tools to accelerate the impact of their mission.

Values

Outline 3-5 values that are exciting and help your team and other stakeholders come together.

Your organization’s values communicate who you are as a collective and how you operate and communicate on a day to day basis. Your values should be grounding, easy to follow, and something that every member of your organization wants to embrace and live by.

Example

UpMetrics:

  • Team First
  • Client Focused
  • Show Integrity
  • Reflect and Improve
  • Let's Go!

Themes

While each organization is unique, most typically allocate resources that align to specific impact themes, issue areas, or portfolios.

Impact Themes help describe a purpose-driven approach to contributing to social or environmental impact.

Example

UpMetrics:

  • Industry Innovation and Infrastructure
  • Capacity Building
  • Systems Change
  • Impact Measurement and Management
