Add an organization and its contacts
An organization is any entity on the platform, such as a funder, investor, grantee, or portfolio company. Add an organization to one or more programs and add contacts so they receive your report requests.
Before you start:
-
Ensure your UpMetrics login is assigned an Org Admin role. Learn more about roles and permissions.
- Have the organization's name and its primary contact's email address ready.
Add an organization
- In the left navigation, click Programs > Organizations.
- Click Add organization.
- In Organization name, enter the organization's name.
- In Contact email, enter the primary contact's email address.
- In Program, select one or more programs.
- Optional: enter the organization's EIN and Company ID. A company ID makes it easier to combine Reporting data with other sources, such as a separate table of company IDs and grant amounts.
- Click Add organization. The organization appears on the Organizations screen.

Tip: You can also add organizations from a program's details page by clicking Add Organization.
If the organization already exists on UpMetrics
If the primary contact already has an UpMetrics account, the existing organization is added to your program instead of creating a new one. If the contact belongs to an organization with a different name, you'll see that organization's name and need to type it in to confirm. This prevents adding the wrong organization by mistake.
Edit an organization
- On the Organizations screen or the organization's detail page, click the three vertical dots and select Edit.
- Update the organization name, EIN, company ID, or programs, then click Save changes.
Keep in mind:
- You can't change an organization's name after someone from that organization has logged in.
- You can't remove a program from an organization if the organization is part of an active report in that program.
Add a contact
- Click the organization's name, then click View contacts.
- Click Add contact.
- In Email address, enter the contact's email, then click Add contact. The contact appears in the list [with a Pending status].
What happens next: New contacts become administrators for their organization. They aren't emailed right away. They receive an invitation the next time there's activity for their organization, such as when a report opens for submission.
Note: Each email address can belong to only one organization. If the contact already belongs to another organization, you'll see an error.
Tip: Adding several contacts increases the chances of a timely response, since all of an organization's administrators receive report requests. Responding organizations can also add their own team members.
