Choosing between targeted forms and conditional logic
Reporting gives you two ways to control who sees which questions: targeting a form to specific organizations, or using conditional logic to show or hide questions based on earlier answers. Which one fits depends on what you already know about your responding organizations
When this applies
This choice comes up whenever only some of your responding organizations should answer certain questions, whether you're building a new report or adding a form to an existing reporting period. If you want to target a set of questions, group them into their own form, since individual questions can't be targeted.
Rule of thumb: If you already know which organizations should answer certain questions before you send the report, use a targeted form. If you'll only find out from the organizations' own answers, use conditional logic.
Use targeted forms when you already know who needs the questions
Targeting works at the form level. You choose which organizations receive a form in a reporting period, and only those organizations see it.
Example: You know which organizations are climate-focused. Put your climate questions in their own form and target it to those organizations, rather than asking everyone a screening question.
Use conditional logic when the answer comes from the organization
Conditional logic works inside a form. A rule can show or hide a single question or an entire question group based on how an earlier question is answered. A rule can include more than one condition, matching all or any of them, and can show or hide more than one question at a time.
Logic applies only to the form you add it to. If you add logic to a form while building a report, it's also saved to that form in your form library, so it applies anywhere that form is used.
Example: You don't know which organizations distributed loans this period. Ask "Did you distribute loans during this reporting period?" and add a rule that shows the loan question group only when the answer is "Yes."
Tip: You can also add logic to questions inside a question group. Logic in a question group goes wherever the group goes, so it's a good choice when you reuse the same set of questions across several forms.

Check your work - Use Preview form to test your logic. To confirm targeting, preview the report as a specific organization on the Review & Publish tab. Each organization sees only the forms targeted to them.
