Ensure the right people have appropriate access to your UpMetrics account and protect sensitive data from unauthorized access with roles and permissions.
Use roles and permissions to control your UpMetrics account
The first account you create with UpMetrics will automatically be set to an Org Admin role.
There are three basic roles that determine levels of access across all of UpMetrics settings. This includes permission to manage team access and organization settings, permission to edit data sets and dashboards, and permission to view different data sets and dashboards.
- Org Admin
- Controls organization's settings.
- Can edit permissions for team members.
- Can add new members.
- Manages individual role settings in Collect and Analyze.
- Can access any dataset and dashboard they have created and any dataset and dashboard that is shared with the entire organization.
Limits on Org Admin access
Org Admins cannot access private data sets or dashboards.
If you’re an Org Admin, then you can edit everyone else's permissions except your own. If you need to edit your own permissions as an Org Admin, then you need another Org Admin to do so for you.
- Editor
- Can view and edit all datasets and dashboards shared with the organization.
- Can access datasets and dashboards they own in a private state.
- Default access is view and edit for all modules.
Org Admins or the owner of specific datasets or dashboards can change the access rights of editors.
-
- Viewer
- Can view all datasets and dashboards that they have access to.
If you are an Org Admin or you have created the dataset or dashboard, then you can override a viewer’s permissions.
Roles and permissions specifically in Collect and Analyze
Collect and Analyze modules have unique permissions and roles for specific data sets and dashboards. This includes the options to set to Private or Share with organization.
Define and Leverage grant the same rights to all users, regardless of their role.
- Private
- Can only be accessed, edited, managed, or deleted by the owner.
- Cannot be shared with other team members.
Org Admins will not have access to see or edit private data sets or dashboards unless granted specific access.
-
- Share with organization
- Both owners and Org Admins can manage the data set or dashboard.
- Access rights to dashboards and datasets depend on the role and associated user rights.
- Creators and Org Admins can customize permissions in this access level.
Access levels can be changed from one role to another. For example, someone can be switched from a viewer role to having permissions to edit.
Compare roles and permission across UpMetrics
